The policy brief is based on the results of an assessment conducted by the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR) at Coventry University, in partnership with CIDSE*.
The research focused on EU Official Development Assistance funds channeled from 2016 to 2018 to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP). At the same time, the research also focused on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) portfolio, from its creation until December 2019.
The report reveals that between 2016 and 2018, European and international institutions were mainly funding conventional agriculture while little money went to the support of agroecology. The potential contribution agroecology can make towards the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement cannot be fully realized without greater financial support.
