Livestock farming continues to be the subject of various criticisms regarding its difficult integration with environmental protection objectives. But this is a point of view that some specialists are trying to put into perspective, such as Ilse Köhler-Rollefson, German veterinarian and consultant for the FAO, in a note published by Rural21. From the point of view of food security and agroecology, a world without livestock is difficult to achieve, argues the author. We remember from his plea that it would be better to turn to pastoralists to see how livestock systems can be designed and managed sustainably rather than demonizing the sector because of its negative impacts on the environment.
