The Upper East region of Ghana is one of the driest and poorest in the country and where those who live there often rely on dugouts to provide water for agricultural production, tree growing and cattle. The dry season is so long and intense that it causes forest fires which spread into the grasslands, threatening crops and forest landscapes. But finally, there is a glimmer of hope thanks to a new high-yield borehole, financed by the Forestry and Agriculture Fund (FFF), in the Nabdam district of the Upper East region. This infrastructure will enable farmers in the region to be able to engage in agriculture all year round, leading to better business opportunities, livelihoods and in turn, improved food security.
