The challenges of Agricultural Finance are widely recognised. But what really does work in the business between the agriculture and finance in Africa? What policies are needed for success for all concerned? We believe that these questions may only be answered by common efforts between the public and the private sectors, and between the agricultural and the financial sectors.

Zipping Finance and Farming in Africa: Harnessing the Continent’s Potential is the Conference which will bring together the continent’s leading agricultural and financial practitioners and policy makers, including governors of central banks, researchers, media representatives and development partners from all over Africa as well as other regions.

As the major outcome we envisage clear advice of these leading stakeholders on how best to strengthen business linkages between the financial and agricultural sectors, with guidance also on the policies that will contribute to the effective and efficient financing of agricultural value chains.

These African policy recommendations are geared towards representing the African voice within the international community, as a primary input for the international G20 policy paper on agricultural finance.

The Conference will:

  • present and discuss promising business cases between the agricultural and financial sectors;
  • present and discuss promising public policy initiatives;
  • aim at identifying guidelines that inform policy development by government and development agencies, both at country level but also for the overall continent.
