Join a programme of workshops and networking on the role of foundations and their partners in advancing family and smallholder farming on 27 and 28 October 2014 in Brussels. The event is organised by the European Foundation Initiative on Family Farming, within the framework of the 2014 International Year of Family Farming.
On 27 October, foundations and their partners will discuss together the state of play and challenges ahead in three specific areas:
• Feeding the cities: improving the rural-urban nexus
• Supporting farmers and farmer organisations
• Promoting agro-ecology and sustainable farming practices A key objective would be to identify issues that require urgent attention and opportunities for collaboration to address these, drawing on lessons from innovative practices tested by foundations and their partners in the field. The day will conclude with the adoption of a joint roadmap setting out potential areas for joint action to advance this agenda. On the 28th, a full-day public conference will be co-hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee and will feature perspectives from EU & multilateral institutions, farmer organisations and foundations. The European Foundation Initiative on Family Farming will also present the results of its study on foundation approaches in supporting family/smallholder farming and the roadmap for collaboration of the 27 October.
