The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP 2026) is an opportunity to recognize the importance of pastoralists’ contributions to food security and sovereignty, climate change adaptation, social cohesion and peace in rural areas, and biodiversity protection worldwide. In this position paper, AFD, CIRAD and the Working Group “Pastoralist Economy” (AFL, AVSF, GRET, Inter-réseaux Développement rural, IRAM) set out their joint commitments to support the private and public stakeholders working with pastoralist communities, particularly in developing countries. The paper was presented on Wednesday, 25 février 2026, at the Paris International Agricultural Show (Salon international de l’Agriculture).
