The Farmer Field School (FFS) approach is adopted in the vast majority of IFAD-funded projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Through this capitalization, IFAD wanted to analyze the extent to which the FFS approach helped farmers to engage in collective action, to regroup and to become more autonomous in responding to the problems they were facing. This capitalization also emphasizes the role and importance of farmers’ organizations (FOs) and their apex organisations in these processes and how they could help scale them up and ensure their sustainability by institutionalising the approach.
