The sharp increase in the international prices of basic food is hitting the poorest rural communities, according to groups representing millions of small farmers. Such concerns were raised when farmers representatives met in Rome last week at the Farmers Forum, a platform for dialogue launched in 2005 by the U.N. International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), based in Rome.
